What is
going on with the construction off Widewater Road?
The clearing and grading next to
Widewater Road and Rectory Lane is the construction of the first phase of
the Patawomeck Park
on the old Moncure property.
The park will have girl's softball
field and adult softball fields, soccer and football fields with
bleachers, a tot lot and pavilion with restrooms. The fields will be lit
with lighting on poles up to 90 feet high.
Do you
think the County should use taxpayer dollars and park land to build roads
for developers?
At the request
of a developer, the County included in the park construction plan a road
that will serve as the first section of the future Chopawamsic Parkway.
This road will connect Widewater Road to the planned Widewater
Parkway, a four lane highway to serve future development on the
Widewater peninsula. This action by the County saves the developer the
cost of acquiring the land for this road, and the cost of building the
first section.
The estimated
cost of the park as of February 2007 was $4.2 million. This includes
$100,632 for the construction of the section of Chopawamsic Parkway.
